Jonah 2: God’s People

In this second week in the book of Jonah, we contrast what we saw of God’s love and pursuit of his people — and even his enemies — with Jonah’s lack of love for people! Jonah is, in part, an ‘acted parable,’ and in Jonah’s actions, God invites us to see our own: he rejects God and is brought low. But God saves him, and Jonah offers praise — from the most unlikely place! Just as a fish’s belly seems like death but offered Jonah life, Jesus’s grave was a place of literal death, but God turned it into a starting point for true, full life, not just for Jesus but for us!
