James 1:1 - Overview & Backstory

“What would it be like to grow up with Jesus?” That’s the question that starts Salt & Light’s Fall 2024 walk-through of James’s letter to Jesus’s followers. We know from the the Gospel accounts that James did not follow Jesus during the initial part of his half-brother’s earthly ministry. But we know from the book of Acts (and other sources) not only that by the time Jesus ascended, James was counted among Jesus’s followers… but also that James became the leader of history’s first Christian church! So what did history’s first ever “pastor” write to some of history’s first-ever Christians? That’s what we’ll explore this Fall, and that’s what we hear, as some friends read the entirety of James’s letter in this first teaching of the series.
