Genesis 1-2: Humanity - Adam & Eve

Humanity only shows up in Genesis after God’s garden-kingdom is established. If God is the right king of the world, Adam & Eve are his first subjects. But they were also the culmination of God’s creation, designed for a unique familial relationship with their Father and King: Adam and Eve were created in God’s image; they were partners on mission with God; and they were utterly dependent on God. We’ll see how these realities overflowed into their perfect relationships – with God, with themselves, with each other, and with the world. We’ll acknowledge that this is the last chapter in the Bible where those perfect relationships show up for all humanity, but that we see each again as the Gospels recount the life of Jesus. By his power, we too can pursue our right posture as the Spirit leads us to participate in God’s “ministry of reconciliation” (2 Cor. 15).
