James 2:13-26 - Faith & Works

As Salt & Light Community keeps walking through the book of James, we land in the verses that made reformer Martin Luther want to toss James from the Bible! We discuss the different ways that biblical authors use the term “justify” and clarify the way that our faith and our works relate. James cautions against false faith (and empty words), and shows us the beauty of true faith in Christ (which overflows into our lives and is thus proven by our works.) We conclude by seeing God’s faithfulness to us, which is similarly proven by God’s own works — especially Jesus’s sacrifice on our behalf.

*Note: if you’re following along in Salt & Light’s series through James, Nicole Tatum taught James 2:1-12 on Sept 29. You can find that audio here.*
