James 4:13 - 5:6 - Reliance & Hope
One of James’s big questions throughout his letter is, “Where do you put your faith?” In these verses, he boldly cautions against two of the most common places people put our faith, other than God. At the end of chapter 4, he warns against putting faith in our own control and power; in the first verses of chapter 5, he warns against putting faith in finances and possessions. In doing so, God’s invitation is not merely to let go of these things, but rather to realize that Jesus is a far better place to put our faith, and to put our faith in him!
If you’re following along with Salt & Light’s teachings on James each week, we took a break to discuss God’s heart for multiplication on Oct 30, and here’s Nicole’s on from Nov 3, James 4:1-10.
