James 5:7-11: Suffering & Patience

From the Old Testament story of Job, to very real experiences in nearly everyone’s life on earth, it’s undeniable: suffering is real. James returns to this theme that started his letter (see James 1:2), and we can expect his message between James 1 & James 5 to inform how we suffer well: whether “big” or “small,” his challenge to put faith in God alone leads us to suffer with patience — anticipating Jesus’s return, with Christlike compassion toward others in suffering, and seeing the blessing God gives through suffering. Jesus alone suffered perfectly and with patience, and through his suffering we now receive God’s greatest blessings.
